United Nations Security Council
(UNSC)
The primary institution in charge of preserving world peace and security is the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The UNSC, which has 15 members including 5 permanent members with veto power, is essential in reacting to international crises and conflicts. At Model United Nations, you will get the chance to represent a member state and take part in spirited discussions, negotiations, and diplomacy to tackle some of the most important global issues. The UNSC committee offers delegates a distinctive and demanding opportunity to strengthen their leadership, critical thinking, and public speaking abilities while obtaining a greater understanding of international politics and diplomacy, from crisis management to peacekeeping operations.
This committee is open to delegates of all skills; however, is more suited for advanced delegates. The UNSC is limited to 15 delegates. Position Papers are mandatory for this committee.

Brad Guo
DirectorA senior at R.E. Mountain Secondary School, Brad is excited to serve at BCMUN 2023. When stepping into his first committee session in 2020 after begging his friends to come too, he had never expected the years of fiery speeches, near-comedic discussions, and organized chaos that would follow. Through Model UN, Brad has made countless meaningful memories while exploring his passion for global affairs; the experiences and friends he encountered along the way have certainly shaped much of his high school journey. When not staring blankly at his assignments, Brad enjoys collecting different Lego sets, skipping meals, and surfing through Wikipedia pages. Brad hopes to make UNSC an unforgettable experience and sincerely looks forward to meeting everyone in November.

Tyler Sun
ChairA junior at R.E Mountain Secondary School, Tyler Sun is jubilant to serve as the Chair of UNSC. Initially persuaded by his friend two years ago to attend a MUN conference, he has since proficiently grasped the essential ideas of riveting debate, clashing perspectives, and intense diplomacy that define the realm of MUN. Outside of Model UN, Tyler indulges himself in occasional walks around his community, listening to music and crafting a rib-tickling, preposterous "rap career." Tyler extends his wishes to all delegates attending this iteration of BCMUN and greatly anticipates the collective arrival.

Timothy Mai
Assistant DirectorA senior enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program at R.E Mountain Secondary School, Tim is ecstatic to serve as the Assistant Director in the United Nations Security Council at BCMUN 2023. Since starting his first conference not knowing what a "motion" was, he would have never expected the years of fiery speeches, near-comedic discussions, and organized chaos that would follow. Tim expresses his deepest gratitude to the world of Model United Nations, and the indelible impact it has had on his recent years. When not engaged in MUN, you can find him watching food reviews, reading up on NBA statistics, or being consumed alive by the IB program. Tim hopes that UNSC will be a memorable committee, and looks forward to meeting everyone in November.
