Association of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN)
Member states in Southeast Asia make up the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a regional intergovernmental organization. Since its founding in 1967, ASEAN has worked to advance regional integration and collaboration, boost social and economic advancement, and uphold regional peace and stability. You will get the chance to represent a member state in the ASEAN committee at the Model UN and participate in dynamic discussions and negotiations to solve issues pertaining to social justice, economic development, and regional security. The ASEAN committee offers delegates a distinctive and interesting opportunity to learn about the issues affecting Southeast Asia and hone their leadership, critical thinking, and public speaking abilities. These issues range from combating transnational crime to supporting sustainable development.
This committee is open to delegates of all skills, welcoming 20 delegates to participate in fruitful debate. Position Papers are mandatory for this committee.

Jacob Greene
DirectorHello Delegates, my name is Jacob Greene and I am from Mississauga, Ontario. This November, I will be serving as the Director for BCMUN's ASEAN committee! From Singapore's Marina Bay Sands to Cambodia's sacred Angkor Wat, I have been all over South East Asia. This region of the world consists of some of the most interesting geopolitical topics to this date! With a region so unique and diverse in culture and traditions, I really do encourage delegates to fully embody the nature of their assigned nation, and represent them well on their behalf on the third iteration of BCMUN! Until then, I cannot wait to see all delegates this November!

Lincoln Pham
ChairGreetings delegates, my name is Lincoln Pham and I will be chairing the ASEAN committee for BCMUN 2023. As a recent joiner to MUN, I was instantly captivated by the fierce and fun environment that MUN provided, and I still look for all the opportunities I could get to participate. Outside of MUN, I enjoy queuing up a quick game of ARAM and reading books. I believe that a part of MUN is telling a story, and I am excited to see what stories will be carved here at BCMUN.

Richard Xue
Assistant DirectorRichard is a student hailing from Dr. EP Scarlett High School. With a keen interest in international affairs, he eagerly takes on the role of Assistant Director for the ASEAN Committee at BCMUN 2023. Reflecting upon his years in global affairs and politics, from his very first stuttering speech to confidently speaking at multiple Model UN conferences, he continues to be shaped by his continuous journeys in the world of MUN. Outside of the Model United Nations community, Richard also has a strong affinity for chess and enjoys contemplating his blunders on the checkerboard and finds relaxation and entertainment in watching the television series "Young Sheldon".
